How to Block a Phone Number on Android and WhatsApp

In Phone by Google, open More > Call history, select the number, and tap Block / report spam. In WhatsApp for Android, open that person's chat, tap More > More > Block, and confirm. These controls are separate: the Phone block automatically declines ordinary calls, while the WhatsApp block stops contact through WhatsApp only.
Open the call in Phone by Google
Open Phone by Google, tap More, then Call history, and select a call from the number. You should see actions for that call; a Samsung or other manufacturer's dialer can use different labels, so use its official instructions instead.
Block ordinary calls
Tap Block / report spam and confirm the block. Report the number as spam only when the call genuinely appears unwanted or deceptive; blocking alone is enough when you simply do not want calls from it.
Block private or unidentified callers only if intended
To decline private or unidentified numbers, open Phone > More > Settings > Blocked numbers and turn on Unknown. Google states that this still allows visible numbers that are merely absent from your contacts.
Open the WhatsApp chat
In WhatsApp for Android, open the chat with the person, tap More, tap More again, then choose Block. The confirmation should identify the contact you are about to block; stop if it is the wrong account or chat.
Choose whether to report
Confirm Block. Choose the separate report option only for problematic content, scams, or spam; reporting is not required for an ordinary block.
Verify both controls
Open Phone > More > Settings > Blocked numbers and confirm that the number appears. In WhatsApp, open Settings > Privacy > Blocked contacts and confirm the contact appears there; old call and chat history can remain after a successful block.

If it does not work
- If Phone by Google is not installed, use the device manufacturer's official dialer instructions instead of forcing these labels onto another Phone app.
- If the person is blocked in one app but can still contact you through the other, complete the separate block in that second app.
- If you blocked the wrong person, remove that entry from the corresponding blocked list. Unblocking in Phone does not unblock the same person in WhatsApp.
