How to Fix Battle.net Slow Download Speed & Connection Problems

Source-checked About 10 minutes

Answer

In the Battle.net app, check Settings > Downloads for a bandwidth limit, pause other downloads, then restart the app and network equipment. Blizzard notes that download rates may also be reduced during peak demand.

Guide steps7 steps
  1. Measure the Battle.net rate
  2. Check the download limit
  3. Pause and resume once
  4. Restart the supported path
  5. Use a wired or stable connection
  6. Account for peak demand
  7. Escalate the remaining bottleneck
  8. If it still does not work

Measure the Battle.net rate

Keep Battle.net open on Downloads and compare its displayed rate while other launchers, cloud backups, streams, and operating-system updates are paused.

Check the download limit

Open Battle.net Settings > Downloads. Review the Network Bandwidth limits for latest updates and pre-release content, and remove or raise an unintended cap.

Pause and resume once

Pause the download for several seconds, resume it, and allow the displayed rate time to stabilize. Do not repeatedly restart a large update.

Restart the supported path

Exit Battle.net completely, restart the computer, then power-cycle the router or modem if other devices are also slow.

Use a wired or stable connection

If possible, test Ethernet or move closer to the Wi-Fi access point. Disconnect VPN or proxy software for the test unless it is required by the network.

Account for peak demand

Blizzard states that download rates may be limited during periods of high demand. If the rate drops only during a major release, wait and retest later.

Escalate the remaining bottleneck

If only Battle.net remains slow, contact Blizzard with the game, region, time, wired or Wi-Fi result, configured bandwidth limits, and measured rate. If every service is slow, contact the network administrator or ISP.

If it does not work

  • If the issue affects only one server, file, world, document, or account, preserve that result and report it to the relevant owner; a full reinstall cannot repair remote content.
  • If the official requirements are no longer met, do not bypass platform security or install modified legacy builds. Use supported hardware, software, and account routes.
